D3S and the Rockwell Collins GE1 chipset

After display list execution modules for TIGA and GLIDE had been developed, in December 1999 we were provided with a Rockwell Collins GE1 Avionics Display System. This is used for conventional Avionics displays formats such as a Primary Flight Display (PFD) and a Navigation Display (ND). Since the DELPHINS Tunnel-in-the-Sky software performed all 3-D transformations in software and the display list execution only contains 2-D drawing instructions, a display list execution module for the GE1 would enable depicted of perspective flightpath displays on real flight hardware.

Below are some pictures of the results. After the demonstration on the GE1 (left) was successful, we also got the more powerful GE2 (right) which was compatible.

Besides the flight guidance function the software also included a surface guidance function. In 2000, the Rockwell Collins laboratory in Toulouse installed the DELPHINS GE2 software in their engineering flightdeck (on the left side).
